Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
The federal agency dedicated to protecting consumers in the financial marketplace. Created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, the CFPB consolidates consumer financial protection authority that had previously been spread across seven different federal agencies.

Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
The independent agency that insures deposits and examines and supervises financial institutions for safety, soundness, and consumer protection. The FDIC operates six regional offices that supervise FDIC-insured financial institutions across the country.
FDIC Headquarters
The FDIC preserves and promotes public confidence in the U.S. financial system by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions for at least $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category. It examines and supervises financial institutions for safety, soundness, and consumer protection, makes large and complex financial institutions resolvable, and manages receiverships of failed institutions.

The FDIC’s six regional offices supervise and examine FDIC-insured depository institutions, resolve failed institutions, and handle consumer complaints within their respective territories. The Chicago Regional Office supervises FDIC-insured depository institutions in the upper Midwest. It conducts regular examinations of state-chartered banks that are not members of the Federal Reserve System, assesses risk, and monitors emerging threats to the banking system in its territory.

The Dallas Regional Office supervises FDIC-insured institutions across the south-central United States. It oversees one of the largest territories by number of supervised institutions, including many community banks across Texas, Oklahoma, and surrounding states. Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC)
